Cathie Smith

I began Iyengar Yoga with Karen Major in 1998, a year after my fourth child was born. This direct approach spoke to me immediately and I knew that it would become an important part of my life. I was searching for more energy, better focus, and due to a serious accident in Thailand I still hadnt addressed the imbalance created in my body. This work goes directly to the core of the problems. The inner, spiritual aspect of this work sustains me and keeps me committed and motivated. In 2001 I was accepted into the three-year intensive teacher-training program at Yoga Center Toronto and became a Nationally Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher in October 2005 (Introductory II). I continue to study under the direction of senior teacher Marlene Mahwinney. I have also had the opportunity to attend workshops lead by Geeta Iyengar in Vancouver and Shirley Daventry French in Mexico. The more that I learn the more I am inspired by his work. Iyengar's words sum it up -- " love, labor and laugh".
